Mr. Joseph McPhillips
Hello! My name is Joseph McPhillips. I am so honored to begin my 15th year at West Elementary in the Physical Education Department! I feel I have the best job in the world because I get to interact with young students and teach them real world skills through sports. The life lessons that I have gone through are what motivates me to educate all my students to prepare them for lifelong success. I received my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership all from The University of Alabama. I am also a Football and Basketball Coach in the Cullman City School System and cherish the memories and relationships made throughout my time coaching student-athletes.
I am married to my best friend, Tracie McPhillips, who is also a PE Teacher at Cullman Middle School. We live here in Cullman and have two beautiful kids, Ryleigh (10) and Dyson (7). In my spare time, I love being with my family and friends, going to the beach, and watching any and all sports, but especially Alabama Football. Roll Tide!

Mrs. Katie Knop
My name is Katie Knop and this is my 10th year teaching Physical Education at West Elementary. I received my Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Kinesiology from The University of Alabama. I taught PE for 2 years in Tuscaloosa before returning home to Cullman in 2014. I am blessed to be able to do what I love in my hometown!
I am married to Chad Knop and we have two children, Hughes (6 years old) and Mary Ellis (1 year old). When I am not teaching, I love spending time with family, friends, traveling, and attending Alabama football games.

I have 27 years of experience in education and degrees from Cullman High School and Auburn University, I am dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and active lifestyles among our students, creating a positive and supportive learning environment every step of the way. I have 2 children. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
