Welcome to 6th Grade Reading at West Elementary!

Hello, families and students! I’m Mrs. White, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to an exciting year in 6th Grade Reading! We’ll be exploring new reading strategies, building confidence, and strengthening the skills you’ve already developed — all while discovering the joy and adventure that great books bring. 

This year marks my 35th year teaching at West Elementary, and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of this incredible school community. I’ve taught both 2nd and 6th grade, but 6th-grade reading holds a special place in my heart. Not only do I get to share my love of reading with you, but I also have the privilege of helping students prepare for a successful transition to middle school. Get ready — we’re going to READ, THINK, and GROW!

I’m a proud product of Cullman City Schools, having attended West Elementary myself before graduating from Cullman High School — Go Bearcats! It was here, in these very halls, that I first felt the calling to become an educator.

Outside the classroom, I’m blessed with a wonderful family. My husband, Philip White, and I have two children. Our daughter, Oakleigh, is married to Jacob Calahan, and they have a sweet daughter, Mary Pat — my pride and joy as a grandmother! Our son, Jacob, is in the poultry business and he works as a Field Man for Aviagen.

When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with family and friends, volunteering at Northbrook Baptist Church, and curling up with a good book — especially Harry Potter! You’ll often find me enjoying the peace and quiet of our family farm.

I can’t wait for all the adventures this school year will bring. Let’s make it a year to remember!
