Mrs. Tere KellyGreetings! I am Tere Kelly, the Library Media Specialist at West Elementary School. I bring over two decades of teaching experience to my role. With 25 years in education, my journey has been marked by a deep passion for nurturing young minds and fostering a love for reading. I transitioned from the traditional classroom setting within our school into the library setting, finding renewed energy and purpose in guiding students through the vast world of literature.

I've been married for 20 years to my husband Jason. I am a devoted wife and mother to my son Luke, who currently attends Cullman Middle School. My family provides a foundation of support and inspiration for my work, driving my commitment to ensuring every child has access to quality education and the joy of discovery through books.

My enthusiasm for reading is contagious, and I thrive on connecting with students to ignite their curiosity and imagination. Whether recommending new titles, organizing engaging library programs, or providing resources for research, I am dedicated to empowering students to become lifelong learners and avid readers.

Mrs. Caroline BurressSince 2003, I've been employed at West Elementary. Over the years, I've had the privilege of serving as an instructional assistant in various capacities, including resource support and working with students across all grade levels. Transitioning to the library in 2014, I've taken on the role of a library assistant, where I love interacting with students of all ages and collaborating with our exceptional staff and teachers. My primary aim is to match each student with the perfect book, believing that fostering a love for reading at an early age sets the stage for lifelong readers.

I run and design our school newspaper, Paw Prints. I choose several students to help write articles and draw comics for it. The enthusiasm among students for purchasing each edition is heartening, as Paw Prints serves as a cherished memento akin to a mini yearbook.

I serve as the webmaster for our school's website, ensuring its content remains engaging and informative.

I've been happily married for 37 years to a remarkable man, and together, we have a wonderful daughter named Ashley, who is married to the perfect gentleman, Josh. Our family is completed by our four crazy dogs, as you can see in my photo. During my leisure time, I love to cook, staying active through workouts, cherishing moments with family, and indulging in music.

Library Mission and Goal

The mission of the West Elementary Library Media Center is to provide quality resources, as well as to work collaboratively with all members of the West Elementary learning community, to help provide a superior educational experience where students succeed academically, physically, and socially while developing an appreciation for the arts, our community, and our environment.

It is the goal of the West Elementary Library Media Center to provide a safe environment, full support, and adequate resources and materials which will allow and encourage students:

  • To inquire, think critically, identify problems, and develop strategies for problem solving
  • To demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to inclusiveness and respect for diversity in the learning community
  • To work effectively with others to broaden perspectives and work toward common goals
  • To make meaning for oneself and others by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance
  • To discover and innovate in a growth mindset developed through experience and reflection
  • Demonstrate safe, legal, and ethical creating and sharing of knowledge products independently while engaging in a community of practice and an interconnected world.
